Will traveled the world before founding Will’s Machu Picchu Adventures in 2015, drawn to Cusco by its landscapes, culture, and the community of travelers who pass through every year. He built the company around the kind of experience he wished he’d had on his own trips: small groups, expert bilingual guides, quality gear, honest advice, and personal attention from the person who runs the business.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to trek in Peru?
The dry season runs from May through September and offers the clearest weather. April and October are shoulder-season sweet spots — fewer crowds, still-good weather, and slightly lower prices. The Inca Trail is closed every February for maintenance; availability of other treks depends on weather, trail conditions, and your departure.

How far in advance should I book?
For the Classic Inca Trail, book 4-6 months ahead — permits are strictly limited to 500 per day (including guides and porters), and peak-season dates sell out fast. For Salkantay, Lares, and day tours, 4-6 weeks is usually enough.

Do I need to be super fit?
For day tours like Rainbow Mountain and the Sacred Valley, moderate fitness is fine. For multi-day treks, you should be comfortable hiking 6-8 hours a day with elevation gains up to 3,940 feet. We recommend at least 2-3 months of hiking or cardio training before your trip.

How do I acclimatize to the altitude?
Spend at least 2 full days in Cusco (11,150 feet) before starting any trek. Hydrate constantly, avoid alcohol the first 48 hours, and consider coca tea or altitude-sickness medication (consult your doctor). We can arrange a Sacred Valley day tour on day 2 as a gentle acclimatization hike.

What’s your cancellation policy?
Tours require full payment, and bookings are non-transferable. Ask Will for the cancellation, refund, and rescheduling terms that apply to your specific itinerary before paying.
